How to control page breaks in Word
Starting the next page
Need to start the text on the next new page? I've noticed that some people solve this by hitting return several times until a second page appears. The quick (and correct) way is simply hitting CTRL and ENTER at the same time.
Another way (in 2003 and earlier)....
- Insert (on menu bar)
- Break
- Page break (radio button)
- OK
(in 2007)....
- Page Layout ribbon
- Page Set-up Group
- Breaks
Removing page breaks
First click on the show/hide icon to reveal what's called the non-printing characters. The Show/Hide icon looks like a reversed P on the toolbar. Page breaks are displayed as dotted horizontal lines with the words "page break" in the middle. Now it's just a case of deleting it using the delete key on the keyboard.
Pretty Page Borders
What to make your documents more attractive? Word comes with a whole host of different lines and borders that can be put around pages. Here's how.....
- Format
- Borders & Shading
- Select Page Border tab
- Select the line type, colour and weight from the drop down menus
- Click OK
In 2007, Borders & Shading icon is found in two places:
- Home ribbon in the paragraph group
- Page Layout ribbon, in the page background group
Business-minding while you holiday
Planning on going away for a holiday this summer? We helped a number of small businesses stay open last summer by answering their calls while their owners relaxed on holiday. We were able to keep their clients and potential clients informed and gave peace of mind to the business owner that they weren't loosing any opportunities or potential new clients to the dreaded answer-phone message. And all it costs is 99p per call taken, there's no contract term or fixed monthly fees. It's very easy to arrange:-
1. you purchase a £25 call voucher,
2. we give you a unique telephone number to divert your calls to
3. your calls are answered in your company's name by our team
4. messages are forwarded by email to you
This is also a great service if you find yourself out of the office a lot, or just need peace from phone interruptions while you concentrate on a piece of work. We can also provide more than message taking if required and at the moment you can try the service free of charge for 14 days - call or email me for further information.
Until next month....
